A summer release is planned for the off-Broadway cast recording of Marry Me a Little. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this completely sung-through show weaves together several of his unknown songs. The celebrated off-Broadway production opened at the Clurman Theatre on October 2, where it ran through October 27.
Marry Me a Little features a handful of Sondheim tunes cut from other musicals. The upcoming cast recording will feature these never-before-heard musical gems, including “Rainbows” (originally written for the unproduced Into the Woods film) and “Yoo-Hoo!” (cut from Sunday in the Park with George).
The musical itself tells the story of two single New Yorkers, left all alone in their apartments on a Saturday night. As they drink and play out their secret romantic fantasies, they never quite realize that their perfect match is just one floor away.
The show’s two leads, Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd) and Jason Tam (Lysistrata Jones), hit the recording studio on April 26 to preserve the off-Broadway cast recording for Ghostlight Records.
